Allison RH Conyer was born in California and received her BA in Psychology and French and Italian Literature. She continued her studies and received Rabbinic smicha in 1998 from the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in New York. Having lived in 5 countries and studied in Reform/Progressive, Conservative, and Modern Orthodox yeshivot, Rabbi Conyer has pursued a career dedicated to Jewish pluralism and dialogue. She has been a congregational rabbi at North Shore Temple Emanuel, Chatswood NSW and teacher of Jewish Studies at Emanuel School in Sydney. During this time, sher facilitated courses for interfaith couples raising issues and creating a safe space for support and dialogue. She also stood on the Executive Council of Christians and Jews, as well as NSW Multicultural Commission, involving herself in interfaith dialogue, as well as intra-faith dialogue. Rabbi Conyer then moved to America where she was employed as the Executive Director of Santa Barbara Hillel in California working with University students. She is currently employed as the rabbi at Etz Chayim Progressive Congregation, Bentleigh VIC while teaching Jewish Studies at King David School, Melbourne VIC. Married to Dr. Bryan Conyer and mother of four, she is passionate about the Jewish community, dialogue, understanding, challenge and respect of the plurality of Jewish perspectives and practice.
